Over the last thirteen years, the Bounty Garden has provided over 30,000 pounds of organic produce to local food banks. We are proud of our success and yet we could have delivered so much more! The longer we garden in our park location, unfortunately more and more wildlife have found our free buffet of fresh, organic produce. We have determined that our only viable, long-term, solution is to build permanent wire structures to enclose each raised bed.
Our “Crop Protection Project” includes the construction of thirteen 16” high enclosures to protect our delicate spring and fall greens and thirty 60” high enclosures to protect our much taller summer plants.
With the help of Bob Adelson, a recently retired local contractor, we have nearly completed construction of the low enclosures. We are currently coordinating with the Diablo Woodworkers, a local non-profit woodworking club, to construct the large enclosures. Diablo Woodworkers have selected the Bounty Garden’s Crop Protection Project for their annual Community Service Project. Together, we are raising funds to fast track the construction of these badly needed enclosures so that we can once again deliver all of the produce our volunteers grow to the food insecure in our community.
